LOGIC.co.id – Google plans to evolve its Search engine into a virtual assistant powered by artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative was revealed by Google CEO Sundar Pichai during the company’s recent earnings presentation.
“As AI continues to expand the range of queries people can ask, 2025 will be one of the biggest years for search engine innovation,” Pichai stated, as quoted by TechCrunch on Wednesday (February 6, 2025).
Google Search to Transform into an AI Assistant
Google is taking a major step to make Search more than just a search engine. By leveraging technology from DeepMind, the company aims to turn Google Search into an AI assistant that can help users explore the internet, navigate web pages, and find information more efficiently.
This development is Google’s response to the rising popularity of AI-powered chatbots, such as OpenAI‘s ChatGPT, which was launched in 2022.
Project Astra and Plans for Multimodal AI Integration
When asked about the future of AI in Google Search, Pichai mentioned Project Astra, DeepMind’s multimodal AI system. This technology can process videos directly from a camera or computer screen and provide real-time responses based on the displayed information.
Google also plans to apply this multimodal AI technology to various other business sectors, including the development of AI-powered augmented reality (AR) smart glasses.
Additionally, there is the Gemini Deep Research project, an AI agent claimed to be capable of generating lengthy research reports within minutes. Pichai believes this innovation could reshape how users interact with Google Search.
Google Search to Become More Interactive
Google is likely to introduce new features that will make Search more interactive and capable of answering follow-up questions from users. While he did not provide further details, Pichai hinted that Google is considering making Search more like a chatbot that can deliver in-depth contextual responses.
“I think the Search product will evolve even further. When you make it easier for people to interact and ask follow-up questions, the search experience will be much better,” Pichai said.
With these AI-driven innovations, Google Search is expected to become significantly smarter, more interactive, and capable of revolutionizing the way people find information more efficiently.
